SHILLONG: The chit fund scam involving Saradha group has revived the demand to initiate a fresh probe against National Self Employment Mission (NSEM) which had duped several investors all over Meghalaya and the Northeast. The NSEM also had an office at Lachumiere, here which ceased to function after several complaints were registered against it in the past.

Several politicians, bureaucrats and even police personnel were duped by the company in the State.

It was the CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing who had filed complaints with police, but there was no thorough inquiry into the matter.

When contacted, Kharshiing said that the organisation wanted to know what police had done with the FIR filed against the NSEM which had duped many investors, especially from the rural areas, who were fooled as many thought it was another Mission of the Government.

“The CID was asked to inquire into the matter by the Finance Secretary of Meghalaya but nothing came out of it”, Kharshiing alleged.

According to the CSWO president, the then Inspector, TC Chacko who investigated the matter was promoted, but the probe is in limbo.

Kharshiing alleged that the leader and promoter of NSEM, Pio Dkhar had negotiated with the Government that he would put a bank guarantee of Rs 50 lakh, but in vain.

She revealed that the people were depositing in a bank account as per the demand of NSEM and police should check the account and take out the bank statement to unearth more about the scam.

” When the CSWO checked the NSEM account through someone in the SBI, New Delhi, it was found that

within four days, the NSEM collected Rs 2 crore”, Kharshiing said, alleging that this could have easily been found out by the police had they done their job since the company has been running the account for long.
