Guwahati: In the wake of arrest of two senior Maoist leaders – Aklanta Rabha alias Maheshji and Siraj Rabha – from near Assam -Meghalaya boundary on Friday last, Assam police is trying
to find out details of Maoists’ attempt to make foray into neighbouring Meghalaya.
The Maoists leaders were arrested while they were on their way to meet some Khasi youth near Assam-Meghalaya boundary.
A senior police official informed that though the exact details about Maoists’ bid to woo insurgent outfits like HNLC in Khasi Hills were to be found out during the course of
investigation, it was certain that the red rebels were certainly trying to spread their ideology among Khasi people in Meghalaya.
The Maoists are eyeing aggrieved Khasi people from grossly underdeveloped inter-state boundary areas to achieve their goal of making inroad to common tribal people in the under developed hill state.
It is part of the bigger plan of the Maoist to have a hold all over the Northeast where many states are already fighting hard to keep insurgents under check, another police source informed.
After setting up a cadre base of sort in many districts of Assam including Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Kamrup, Goalpara, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur etc. the red rebels are trying to spread tentacles to neighbouring states of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya in their attempt to establish a people’s army in the long run.
In Assam, police have already identified over 180
) Maoists cadres including 23 women while vigil has been mounted against activities of certain overground frontal organisations suspected to have links with Maoists.
