SHILLONG: The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers Association (NEHUTA) in its general body meeting on Monday discussed in detail the alleged whimsical, arbitrary and illegal action taken by the Vice Chancellor, NEHU pertaining to the implementation of promotion of teachers under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), pay fixation on revision of pay as per recommendation of sixth pay commission, and also denial and partial payment of incentive for higher qualification as approved by MHRD and UGC in their regulation.
The alleged attempt by some officers of MHRD in connivance with some others to stop the payment of HASA to the employees of the University was also voiced during the meeting.
In a statement issued here, the NEHUTA demanded
that the date of eligibility for promotion of teachers under CAS be restored in those cases whose date has been tampered arbitrarily by the Vice-Chancellor.
“Pay fixation formula adopted by the University created anomalies in the pay between teachers on the same cadre implying that juniors will get more salary than seniors. Such deliberate culture of sycophancy and discrimination is strongly condemned and the pay fixation formula be corrected within one month, failing which NEHUTA will be constrained to intensify its stepwise agitation programme,” the statement added.
The meet resolved to demand proper incentives to teachers for PH.D degree besides demanding the university to stop discriminating between Professors (under CAS) and Professors (Open).
Recalling the 83rd and 84th academic council resolutions in 2010, the NEHUTA reiterated its trust in the resolutions on Hill Areas Special Allowance (HASA) adopted there and argued that in the light of those resolutions there is no need to bring the letter of MHRD regarding HASA in future in any academic council meeting.
The NEHU teachers association apprehends an act of conspiracy on the part of some officials from within and from MHRD in destroying the academic excellence and congenial atmosphere of the University
