TURA: Expressing concern over the poor communication along the Indo-Bangla border, Meghalaya Frontier Border Security Force Inspector General Sudesh Kumar said that proper road connectivity was the need of the hour in the area.
“What once seemed to be a motor able road becomes puddle of mud and slush once the monsoon starts making patrolling extremely difficult. The need of the hour is road connectivity without which the improvement of the communication, education and medical sector in the border areas would be not possible,” Kumar said while speaking to media persons during a civic action programme organized by the BSF.
“People residing along the Indo-Bangla border opt to use SIMs procured from Bangladesh as the network of other service providers like BSNL, Aircel, Airtel etc. is very poor and cannot be relied on,” Kumar observed while recalling that the last time he was here, villagers complained that lack of communication had impeded higher education chances of their children.
Kumar said that the BSF had persuaded BSNL to set up Wimax in the region for the benefit of the people but despite all the efforts, the poor network did not help much.
The senior official informed that the BSF has taken the matter up with the
State Government and suggested that mobile and fixed land line connectivity in these areas be improved based on the Universal Service Obligation (USO) policy.
He also stated that the BSF was willing to provide land to set up towers in places where there was trouble finding one.
