NONGSTOIN: The KSU West Khasi Hills on Friday detected that a large number of coal laden trucks plying through Riangdo areas possess the challan from Assam instead of Meghalaya.
The KSU West Khasi Hills members led by its president John F Nongsiang had conducted a surprise checking on the coal laden trucks who are exporting coal from the State to Assam.
After the surprise checking, Nongsiang told reporters that they have found that many of the trucks possessed the challan from Assam instead of the State.
He said that many of the coal laden trucks prefer to take the challan from Assam since it is much cheaper compared to Meghalaya.
Informing that the cost of each challan in Meghalaya is Rs 9600, the KSU West Khasi president informed that the price of each challan is around Rs 4000.
“We fail to understand how the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) check gates at Athiabari have not detected these lapses,” Nongsiang said while also pointing out that the State Government is losing several crore of rupees due to the incompetency on the part of DMR to check these coal laden trucks who are doing coal transaction with the challan from the neighbouring State.
“The State exchequer would have collected several crore if the Government would have plugged the leakages,” Nongsiang added.
