SHILLONG: UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said that the latest fiasco on the Education Front involving the CMJ University has again brought into sharp focus the grave and far reaching consequences with which hasty and ill conceived legislation is fraught.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Lyngdoh said that the party wishes to reiterate that any well meaning piece of legislation requires due diligence and time is a sine qua non to allow legislative process to take its full course.
“The clichéd, old trick of suspension of rules to afford sufficient time to members whenever weighty controversial bills come up for consideration by the State Assembly has been the rule rather than exception and very often is resorted to with malafide intent aimed at frustrating an objective and clause by clause scrutiny of such bills,” the UDP working president said, adding, “The party, therefore, will not put up with such chicanery and deception aimed to benefit certain individuals,”.
While lauding the role of Government RS Mooshahary on the matter, Lyngdoh said that the party deems the fiasco as a fit case for reference to the CBI and will take firm and appropriate steps towards this goal.
