Megh Meet to conclude today

 SHILLONG: The six-day inter-district sports event, Megh Meet 2013, will conclude at the JN Stadium on Saturday with the closing ceremony scheduled for 2 pm.

On the fifth day of the sporting event on Friday, South West Khasi Hills bagged the men’s volleyball and girl’s handball title.

The volleyball title went South West Khasi Hill’s way after the opponent East Khasi Hills side failed to report within the allotted time for the final.

While South West Khasi Hills went down poorly to East Jaintia Hills losing 2-15 in the handball finals, girls from the district got the better of their Ri Bhoi opponents, beating them 8-2 in the final.

R W Wanchand of South West Khasi Hills won the individual carom title in the boy’s category while A Mawrie of Ri Bhoi claimed the girl’s title.

The men’s carom team event saw East Khasi Hills emerge as the winner while South West Khasi Hills settled for the runners-up position. Ri Bhoi represented bagged the women’s carom title beating South West Khasi Hills.

In the boy’s Kho Kho event, West Jaintia Hills emerged winner beating East Khasi Hills 26- 23 while the girl’s category saw East Garo Hills beating East Jaintia 11-10.

East Khasi Hills will take on West Khasi Hills in the girls’ basket ball final on Saturday, while East Khasi Hills will lock horns with West Garo Hills in the boy’s final.

In boxing, Sabestian Nongrum Ri Bhoi will take on Laitpharlin Hoojon of West Khasi Hills in the final of the boy’s 49 kg event while Maitshaphrang Synret of East Khasi Hills will fight Hardinand Rani of West Jaintia Hills in the boy’s 52 kg event. Srypai Salahe (WJHD) will take on Egnatius Nongrum (EKH) in the finals of the boy’s 56 kg event.
