Exclusive Cong EC likely in KHADC

 SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is likely to have a new arrangement with the Congress leadership for formation of a new Executive Committee (EC) consisting of party MDCs only.

The Congress-led EC in the Council has the support of all the MDCs from the UDP and the HSPDP. In the 30-member House, barring KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum, the rest of the MDCs are supporting the EC.

Sources on Tuesday revealed that there is an ongoing discussion between the KHADC EC and the MPCC over the feasibility of an Executive Committee consisting exclusively of Congress MDCs as is the case with the GHADC and the JHADC.

According to sources, majority of the Congress MDCs are in favour of an EC consisting of Congress members only.

“So far the MPCC is yet to send any official communique to the party MDCs to effect this new arrangement,” sources said, while hinting that the formation of an exclusive Congress EC would take place ‘anytime soon’.

Meanwhile, sources also informed that there are reports that KHADC CEM Pyngshngain N Syiem is likely to announce a small reshuffle in the EC by inducting some new faces.

Sources informed that Syiem is likely to axe the MDCs of other parties from the EC to pave way for the induction of Congress MDCs as Executive Members (EMs).

Non-Congress MDCs who are a part of the present Executive Committee include Deputy CEM Remington Pyngrope (UDP), Teinwell Dkhar (UDP), LG Nongsiej (HSPDP) and Grace Mary Kharpuri (Independent).

When contacted, the CEM said he is yet to receive any official intimation from the party for formation of the new EC consisting of only Congress MDCs.

“I have heard about such things. But I cannot comment on this development unless there is clear cut directive from the party leadership,” Syiem said.

While admitting that he was contemplating to induct some new faces in the EC, Syiem said that he is yet to take a final call on the matter.
