SHILLONG: The United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) has claimed that Meghalaya Police armed the ANVC-B outfit with weapons that had been seized from other militant outfits which were kept in the possession of the State force under directions from the political leadership.
UALA militant chief Singbirth N Marak alias Norrok X Momin in a statement to The Shillong Times on Wednesday revealed that weapons handed over to ANVC-B chairman Rimpu Marak and Mukosh Marak by Meghalaya DSP TC Chacko had earlier been seized from other militant groups such as the GNLA.
“At the time the AK rifles were handed over to ANVC-B leaders by Williamnagar police, I was witness to the transaction. It happened before the tenure of the present SP,” revealed Norrox X Momin while demanding a thorough investigation into the case.
The UALA militant leader is claiming that the weapons were handed over during the time of former SP Sylvester Nongtner when TC Chacko was posted as Circle Inspector in the district.
The then SP and his Circle Inspector were accused by human rights groups of murdering an innocent labourer Washington Marak whom they posed off as a GNLA militant after their attack on the outfit’s camp was repulsed by the armed group over three years ago.
Secret killings alleged by outfit
The UALA has accused its former group leaders from the ANVC-B of executing several members who wanted to part ways from armed conflict.
The UALA military chief has put forward a set of names of individuals who have disappeared in a span of three years and hold accountable the ANVC-B leaders based in West Khasi Hills district.
Dikeo Marak of Dainadubi village in North Garo Hills, Egale Marak of Ampati, Cheman Sangma, Thairteen Momin, Na’chot Sangma, Sengsu Marak, Mikdang Sangma, Tenang Momin, Chenang Momin, Gribinda Momin and Soman Marak are some of the names the UALA chief claims were killed and their bodies disposed off in the jungles of West Khasi Hills.
“If the government is sincere in its investigation they will find that these individuals have disappeared without a trace and their bodies need to be located,” claimed Norrok X Momin who himself stands accused of killing two unarmed jail officials in Williamnagar early this year.
“The sole survivor of the executions was Dikgom Sangma of Asibra village in Tura who lives to tell the tale,” narrated the dreaded militant chief.
