SHILLONG: The Umroi airport which is non-functional at present will take another 3-4 months to be revived.
The state of the art airport became non functional after Alliance Air stopped its services from the Airport in January this year.
Sources on Tuesday said that it will take another three to four months to make the airport operational.
The NEC earlier floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) for airline services to and from the Airport, but only two bidders – North East Shuttles and Seven Sisters Airlines – responded to the EOIs.
In view of the poor response, the NEC again requested for fresh proposals by May 15 and this time around altogether seven bidders have responded to the proposal.
Sources said that firms like Seven Sisters, North East Shuttle, Spirit Air, CD Aviation and others have responded to proposals.
It is learnt that a meeting was also held in NEC on Monday where the details of the proposals were discussed and deliberated.
The firms have given their conditions in the proposals and the now the North Eastern Council (NEC) have to go through the proposals and select the best proposal and accordingly float the bids and the entire process is expected to take three-four months.
Alliance Air, while suspending its service in NE region had blamed the North Eastern Council (NEC) for failing to pay pending dues to the state-owned carrier.
However, the NEC had clarified that the decision to scrap the agreement signed with Air India to continue the service of Alliance Air in the region, was a unanimous one taken by the Chief Ministers and Governors of the various Northeastern states during the 61st NEC Plenary held in June, 2012.
