Manipur delegation led by CM sets out for Myanmar

Imphal: A delegation of the Manipur government, led by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, on Saturday left Imphal for Myanmar.

The chief minister, accompanied by his wife O Landhoni and his Cabinet colleagues, will hold a series of talks with Myanmar officials.

Most of the delegates will travel by road from Moreh.

Officials said a delegation led by MP U Khin Muang Shwe of Myanmar had visited Manipur earlier and discussed possibilities of sharing electricity, health facilities and other economic ventures.

The state delegation will focus on the Sagaing region and may proceed up to Mandalay.

An advance party of health officials of Manipur under ‘Smile Train Shija Cleft Project’ has already left for Monywa to conduct free corrective surgeries of cleft lip and palate in Myanmar.

The team from Manipur is planning to conduct more than 100 operations during the visit.

The land route from Moreh to Mandalay has considerably improved.

Myanmar authorities have requested to allow its citizens to visit Manipur for medical treatment and special guidance to visit Buddhist pilgrimages centres. The Manipur government has also proposed Imphal to Mandalay passenger bus services. (UNI)
