TURA: A Gram Sevak under Sampalgre GS Circle falling under Gambegre C and RD Block in West Garo Hills has been accused of misappropriating funds meant for the construction of infrastructure under the Saakshar Bharat Mission at Danabollongre. Rajandra Ch Marak, the Nokma of Danabollongre under Gambegre Block has accused Gram Sevak Sumit Sangma of siphoning off funds sanctioned under the Saakshar Bharat Mission for the construction of an educational facility at the village. According to the Nokma an amount of 10 lakh was sanctioned under the Saakshar Bharat Mission out of which 1 lakh was meant for wages only.

“The construction work began in 2012 and till date only the foundation has been completed” stated the Nokma. The Gram Sevak allegedly never showed up after the completion of the foundation and the slab.

According to the Nokma the matter was taken to a District Magistrate at Tura.

The Nokma however, dejectedly stated that no intimation on the matter has been received till date. This is reportedly not the only instance of misappropriation of funds by Gram Sevaks under Gambegre C and RD Block in West Garo Hills.
