SHILLONG: BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar has lambasted the Congress-led governments in North East India for their poor performance.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Prakash Javadekar, who is in the city as part of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Defence, said, “The Congress-led governments here have performed badly and they have been indulging in loot and blunder.”
He also said that the NDA Government under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee had sanctioned various programme and packages for the region but the Congress-led governments have failed to capitalize on those programmes.
Reacting to a query on whether the BJP has made any contacts with Purno A Sangma for a ‘tie up’ ahead of the coming Lok Sabha elections, Javadekar said that there has been no such move for any alliance.
The BJP official also prophesized that the Lok Sabha elections will be preponed to October and the party is all geared for it.
He also dismissed any fears about rifts in the BJP over the choice of the Prime Ministerial candidate, even as he refused to divulge any information on the name of the candidate.
Earlier in the day, the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Defence reviewed security preparedness of the Army and the Air Force guarding North East India’s international border with China.
The 15-member Committee reviewed the preparedness of the army and the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force whose mandate is to guard the skies over the region.
