SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has proposed to set up state-of-the-art football stadiums in Shillong and Tura.

“We will come up with the state-of-the-art football stadiums in Shillong and Tura. With the way football in Meghalaya is shaping up, I am totally convinced that the footballers in the state deserve to have better infrastructure,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said here on Tuesday.

Expressing his happiness with the Under-16 sub-junior boys winning the national football championship, Dr Sangma said that it is a great thing to have two local football clubs (Rangdajied United and Shillong Lajong) competing in the upcoming season of the I-League.

“I have no hesitation to say that Meghalaya is slowly turning out to be the hot spot of Indian football,” the Chief Minister said.
