SHILLONG: The World Environment Day was celebrated across the State with commemorative programmes organized by various units and departments.
NEHU: The regional centre of National Afforestation and Eco-Development Board, NEHU in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya, NEHU celebrated world environment day. Important activities of the celebration include plantation of plant sampling by the school students in the school campus and drawing competition on environmental issues for the students
BSF: Border Security Force Meghalaya Frontier also joined in the celebration of World Environmental day as many events were organized to mark the occasion at Frontier HQ BSF Umpling Shillong and at various other BSF locations in Meghalaya.
In order to meet the challenges of global warming posed by rapid and unplanned modernization, a Tree Plantation drive in and around BSF campus area was carried out by troops of BSF and students of BSF senior secondary school.
The BSF also took cleanliness drive in Campus area to help residents live in clean environment besides a rally was organized by children of BSF Senior Secondary School to highlight this noble cause and promote awareness about the environment among local population.
NEEDS: Meanwhile, with a view to impart Environmental awareness to the future generation of leaders and citizens, the North East Educational & Development Society (NEEDS) on Wednesday interacted with 800 students from Hubert Memorial School Umpling, Sharon Memorial School Mawdiangdiang, Glakyn Academy School Rynjah and Hill Crest School Rynjah on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The NSS Unit of Government Girl’s Higher Secondary School observed the World Environment Day by organising a cleaning drive at Jail Road.
KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA: Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) East Khasi Hills under the Department of Agriculture, Meghalaya celebrated the World Environment Day 2013 on 5th June under the theme “Think, Eat, Save”. On this occasion, an Inter School Drawing/ Painting Competition was organized.
FERRANDO SECONDARY SCHOOL: Ferrando Secondary School, Sawsymper celebrated the world Environment Day on in a very unique way, with plantation of saplings that Rev. Fr. Nolibar Khongshun, Headmaster obtained from the Range Officer, Forest Department, Mawsynram Division.
UMTYNGAR: World Environment Day was also observed jointly by the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, East Khasi Hills District and the Meghalaya Bharat Scout & Guides by organizing a simple function held at the Bharat Scout and Guides Training Centre, Umtyngar.
SENG SAMLA MALKI: The world environment day was also observed by the Seng Samla Malki who celebrated this day by conducting a cleaning drive at the Malki Bazar.
