3 detained for questioning

SHILLONG: Keeping their eyes and ears open to frequent occurrences of duping case by private financial companies, Shillong Police on Friday conducted a raid at the office of M/s Marple Infracom Pvt. Ltd at Police Bazar only to find that the company has been issuing debentures to the public without the possession of valid documents.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Vivek Syiem, this company with its regional office at Guwahati and head office at Kolkata has been functioning for over two years now.

“To prevent repetitions of similar cases where customers are often cheated of a huge sum of money by private financial companies in the state, we are trying to keep a close watch on such companies functioning in the state”, Syiem said.

The senior police official also informed that the company had been functioning without even possessing the basic documents like the trading license which only adds up to the suspicions the police have on the company’s motivation of setting up a unit here to collect as much money from the customers and disappear as is the case with many such companies detected recently at Garo Hills and other places.

In this connection, four employees of the company, Debajeet Das (33), Natasha Chyne (30), Bedadynthi Chakraborty and Arjun Mizar from Shillong have been detained for questioning.

“These people are only employees and we are detaining them for questioning and to find out the destination or the account to which the money collected from the people, is deposited,” Syiem added.
