KSU condemns DMR office attack

NONGSTOIN: The KSU West Khasi Hills District Unit has condemned the attempt by the Khasi Jaintia Coal Trucks Owners and Drivers Association (KJCTODA) to shut down the office of the Directorate of Mining Resources (DMR) at Kynshi on Monday.

President of the KSU West Khasi Hills Unit, John Fischer Nongshiang said, “The attack by the KJCTODA was unnecessary and caused a lot of inconvenience to the people travelling to Shillong and back to Nongstoin.

“Even ambulances were not allowed to pass through because some people wanted their vested interests fulfilled.”

Nongshiang told pressmen here that the DMR office brought in a lot of revenue to the State.

“Though West Khasi Hills had a few coal mines, it brought in a huge amount of revenue for the welfare of the state. So we urge people not to cooperate with the KJCTODA, as their agenda is a vested one,” the KSU member said while asking the government to provide security to the DMR office at Kynshi.

Meanwhile, the Challan dealers of Nongstoin have refuted the allegations of the Seng Samla of Kynshi whereby the latter claimed that the Challan dealers of Nongstoin were behind the attack on the DMR Office at Kynshi.

The Challan dealers have also sought a clarification from the Seng Samla of Kynshi in this regar
