SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills, W Khyllep has called for enhancement of various essential services in greater interest of the general public in the district. Khyllep was addressing a few officials from the departments and agencies providing essential services at a meeting held at his office chamber on June 13.
Regarding telecommunication services, Khyllep said that the district would strive for 100 percent mobile connectivity and cover all the 19 uncovered polling stations through mobile network by next parliament elections. To achieve this, he urged upon al mobile phone service providers, including BSNL to coordinate with each other and work at increasing the frequency of their mobile towers so as to cover all the remaining polling stations before next Lok Sabha polls.
The District Veterinary Officer, when enquired about the supply of milk to the people of the district, informed the meeting that sanction has been received from the government for construction of a cattle farm on a land measuring 19 bighas, including a dairy plant under IBDLP which is likely to start functioning from January next. “Once the plant is set up, it would manufacture various dairy products besides supplying milk to the people of the district,” the DVO said. The meeting also discussed the need for uninterrupted power supply, improvement in transport services and unavailability of newspapers in the area among others. The DC also informed that the district administration and the tourism department have decided to start a packaged tour to places of tourist interest in the district in collaboration with the tourist taxi operators from Guwahati.
