SHILLONG: Former legislator Process T Sawkmie has urged Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to extend support and donation to the affected victims of the natural calamity that has struck Uttarakhand.

“The State Government should extend its help and support through donation to the family members who were affected by the Himalayan Tsunami,” Sawkmie said adding that the same should be hurriedly done as the call for help is getting louder by the moment.

The death toll in Uttarakhand is rising by the day with the exact number yet to be ascertained since scores of people are still reported missing after being washed away by the river and others buried under the debris caused by landslides.

Jammu & Kashmir (Rs 1 crore), Gujarat (Rs 2 crore), Maharashtra (Rs 10 crore), Uttar Pradesh and Haryana (Rs 5 crore each) are some of the states that have offered aid to the nature-ravaged state.

Sawkmie also lauded the efforts of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her initiatives in extending help to the affected victims by asking all the MP and MLA of the Congress to donate generously for the victims.
