Mawnianglah FC win MLA Trophy

SHILLONG: Mawnianglah FC beat Elnino 5-2 to win the 2nd MLA Trophy Knockout Football Tournament organized by Nongkseh Sports Social & Cultural Club recently. The winners took away a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 along with the trophy while the runners up were handed over a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a trophy. Youbrenald Nongrum of Elnino was named the best player of the tournament while Ailangtam Thangkhiew, also of Elnino, was adjudged the most promising player. Mylliem MLA R V Lyngdoh handed over the awards to the winners and the runners-up. A friendly match was also played before the final between officials of the NSS&CC and members of the Shillong Referees Board. Shillong Referees Board won the match 5-4.

First Division league: Smit edge past Umphrup

SHILLONG: Kosperwin Rynjah helped Smit edge past Umphrup by a solitary goal in Tuesday’s First Division league match at the JN Stadium here. Kosperwin found the nets in the 76th minute. Umphrup looked threatening initially, but were unable to convert any of the chances. On Wednesday, Laitlyngkot will play their first match of the tournament against Imson FC at 4pm.
