NONGSTOIN: Police personnel and the suspected GNLA militants exchanged fire at Swangre in West Khasi Hills on Tuesday evening. According to police, the militants fired at the BSC C & C JV Company which forced the police personal guarding the company to retaliate. Militants managed to escape by entering the nearby jungle.

It may be mentioned here that the same rebel group had launched a similar attack on the BSC camp at Swangre on May 23.

“The adequate security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas,” Superintendent of Police West Khasi Hills Sylvester Nongtnger said.

Nongtnger informed that police personnel have been already deployed to guard the camp of BSC C& C ‘JV’ CO. located at Swangre and added that a heavy combing operation was on.
