Awareness programme on IBDLP held

 NONGSTOIN: As part of Celebration of Sustainable Development Conclave 2013, an awareness programme on Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion (IBDLP) was organised by the Basin Development Unit, Mawkyrwat on Thursday at the BDO’s Office Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills District.

A large number of people including Myntris and secretaries of different villages, NGOs and elders of Mawkyrwat areas participated in the day long awareness programme.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat, K L Nongbri was the chief guest at the inaugural function.

Nongbri expressed hope that the Basin Development Mission will be beneficial to the people in the State. He also stated that the aim and objective of the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion programme was to change the mindset of the people and uplift their economy by helping them to start any sustainable job that was suitable for their needs.

He therefore, urged upon the people to extend their cooperation with the government for the smooth implementation of various development schemes in the District.

Nongbri also stressed on the need to conserve the environment and its surroundings and appealed to the people that developments should go side by side with the preservation of the environment in the State.

Further, he also advised people to be serious in sustainable development and he encouraged them to take tourism as one of the industry and tap the tourism prospects in the district.

Later, in the technical session, the resource persons briefly explained and highlighted through the power point presentations about various topics which included on Aquaculture Mission, Water Mission, Livestock Mission, Entrepreneurship promotion, rural tourism, eco tourism, financial management among other significant topics.
