Man kills nephew over
relationship with daughter
Meerut: A man allegedly beat up his nephew with the help of some accomplices and got him crushed under a truck as he was opposed to the youth’s relationship with his daughter, police said on day. The deceased’s angry relatives blocked road with his body and pelted stones at vehicles, police said. Aadil (25) was in a relationship with daughter of his uncle Anees (45), they said. Anees was opposed to this, and asked Aadil to discontinue his relationship, but he did not listen, they said. Anees beat up Aadil last night with the help of his accomplices and later, tied up his hands and legs and crushed him under a truck, police said, adding that they left his body on the road where it was found this morning. The victim’s father registered a complaint against Anees, Rahisuddin, Noor Alam and Shah Alam, they said. The accused were initially absconding, but later Anees surrendered in front of DIG, they said. A search is on for the remaining accused and the matter is being probed, they said. (PTI)
Six Naxalites killed in police encounter in Gadchiroli
Nagpur: Six Naxalites were on Sunday killed in an encounter with police near Etapalli tehsil in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district. The encounter was still on and police have so far recovered bodies of six Maoists clad in uniforms, police said. They have also recovered one 303 carbine, three 12 bore rifles and some cartridges from the spot. The C-60 battalion of Gadchiroli district police was fired upon by a group of ultras and the police retaliated, police said, quoting preliminary reports reaching the district headquarters. (PTI)
FIR lodged against BSP leader for attacking man
Ballia: An FIR has been registered against a BSP leader for allegedly attacking a man in Ubhao area here, police said on Sunday. The FIR was registered against BSP zonal coordinator Chhatu Ram and five others yesterday for attacking Ram Nagina in Narla village on June 25 and threatening him of dire consequence over political rivalry, police said. No arrests have been made so far in this connection, they said, adding that the matter is being probed. (PTI)
Woman, accomplice held with
21 kg charas
Ahmedabad: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths arrested a woman and her accomplice with 21 kgs Charas here. According to an NCB statement, acting on a tip-off, the officers of the NCB intercepted Mariam Yakub Malik and Abdul Shaikh, both hailing from Bharuch in South Gujarat, at CTN criss road while they were coming from Jaipur in luxury bus. Twenty-one kg of charas was seized from their possession during the search on Saturday. During the interrogation they revealed that they had gone to Jalandhar in Punjab to collect the contraband and were coming back from there. Further investigations were on, the release added. (UNI)
Arms and ammunition recovered from Odisha forest
Berhampur: Several arms and ammunition were recovered from Matikeda forest in Odisha’s Kandhamal district during a combing operation by security forces, police said on Sunday. The seizure was made during a joint combing operation by the personnel of Central Reserve Police Force, District Voluntary Force and Special Police Officers on Friday night, they said. It was immediately not clear whether the seized arms belonged to Maoists and further investigation was on, they added. Among the seized items were two single barrel muzzle loading guns and a steel container with 2 kg explosives, police said. (PTI)
Two killed in clash
Moga: Two persons were allegedly shot dead after a clash erupted between two factions of ruling Akali Dal at Saidoke village in the district, police said on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Jagmohan Singh and his cousin Gurjant Singh, were returning home from their fields Saturday night on a motorcycle when one accused Varinderjit Singh along with four miscreants intercepted them, they said. In a complaint filed by the deceased’s nephew Amandeep Singh, the cause of firing is believed to be the July 3 Panchayat election in which both Jagmohan and Varinderjit contested Sarpanch election, but were defeated. The accused beat them up, claiming he wanted to teach the victims a lesson for opposing him in the elections and later allegedly fired at them, police said, adding no arrests have been made so far. The five accused have been identified as Varinderjit Singh, father-son duo Chamkaur Singh and Kala Singh and brothers Mander Singh and Sukhdev Singh. A murder case has been registered against all the five accused belonging to Nihal Singh Wala, supporters of SAD MLA Rajwinder Kaur. The deceased were supporters of former Akali minister Tota Singh.
