Village Secy denies ANVC (B) claims

 SHILLONG: Secretary of Omorpul Village, North Garo Hills has denied that the Sordar of Omorpul village invited alleged ANVC-B cadres for talks who were lynched by villagers this week.

In a statement issued here, secretary of the village asserted that the three people were hardcore criminals allegedly belonging to ANVC (B) though they were swift to disown them.

The Secretary also alleged that Hidro Sangma and Chan Marak who were ex-cadres of ANVC (B) had threatened the headman of the Omorpul village with dire consequences if he failed to concede to the demands of their dictate.

“On the night of July 10, nine cadres belonging to ANVC (B) lead by Hidro Sangma visited Omorpul village and the armed cadres of ANVC (B) whisked away the Headman of the village at gunpoint from the crowd who were witness to the whole incident,” the Secretary said.

According to secretary, the Headman managed to escape from their grab and the villagers swiftly surrounded them and soon the residents of surrounding Bajendoba area numbering around few hundreds swelled up at the village and started assaulting the cadres.

He stated that the six cadres of ANVC(B) ran away from the scene and escaped and later, upon interrogation they admitted that they were ANVC(B) cadres.

The Village secretary also alleged that the leaders of ANVC (B) gave free reign to their cadres who are now busy in anti-social activities by serving demand notes to their own Garo brethren and they fail to check their cadres movement.

The ANVC-B earlier had alleged that he victims were called by the Sordar of the village and they were lynched to death by a certain group of villagers.
