TURA: The continuing violence in Garo Hills seems to have no end with armed men not sparing even ‘men of God’. The assistant pastor of a church was abducted and shot dead on Friday night in Rari area of North Garo Hills District.

According to delayed reports from the district, two men came to the house of assistant pastor Previlson G Momin (50) of Ronggopgre Baptist Church, 5 kms from Rari late Friday night.

The two men, one masked, politely requested the assistant pastor to lead them into the village on the pretext that they needed to identify the antecedents of an outsider who had recently set up home in the area.

At the time of the incident only the wife and daughter of the assistant pastor were in the house with him. After he left with the two men the church elder never returned. His body was found with gunshot wounds a few hundred metres from the house the next morning.

Fear has stalked the village following the killing with the victim being given a quiet and quick burial.

However, police have decided to exhume the body for post-mortem examination.
