SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has asked the State Government to sanction funds either from the State scheme or the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) to preserve the Khasi Patriotic Home at Nongkhlaw, West Khasi Hills.

The FKJGP also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma urging his intervention into the matter.

Earlier, the FKJGP had set up the home to preserve the historical importance of the struggle of U Tirot Sing at Nongkhlaw, his birth place.

According to FKJGP president, Joe Marwein, the building was inaugurated in 1997 by late Professor GG Swell but the building was yet to be fully furnished and equipped.

The FKJGP observed that the building could be turned into a museum depicting U Tirot Sing’s history, contributions and achievement by way of films, paintings and sculptures and repository of information.

The State will observe the 178th death anniversary of the Khasi patriot on Wednesday.
