SHILLONG: A day after an under trial prisoner (UTP), Phyrnailang Swer (32) escaped from his cell at North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), the East Khasi Hills district police on Thursday issued a ‘wanted’ notice against the UTP.

Swer, who was arrested for his links with banned militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), was arrested by Jowai police on January 24 last from his wife’s residence at Iawmusiang area under Jowai police station. He was later handed over to Shillong police in connection with some other cases.

Meanwhile, two constables — Meytush Sangma and Sanborlang Shylla, arrested on Wednesday suspecting that they had facilitated the escape of Swer, were produced before a court on Thursday. The court remanded the duo to a 14-day judicial custody.
