Assam Police manhandle women protestors, scribe

 SABUDA: Assam Police personnel on Monday allegedly manhandled some women who were protesting against dismantling of Sabuda Presbyterian LP School (SSA)’s kitchen shed by Assam Police on Saturday.

People of Raid Nongtung (Block II), led by leaders of several NGOs, took out a protest march carrying placards and banners towards Assam Police Battalion office.

The protestors were stopped by Assam Police near the entrance of the office and subsequent exchange of words took place between Assam Police personnel and the protestors.

The situation took a turn for the worst when policemen stated beating up the agitating women, sources said.Provoked by the action of the Assam police, people retaliated and got into a scuffle with the cops. Assam Police also manhandled a media person.

Ri Bhoi District ADM PS Kharkongngor along with a Meghalaya police party arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, sources added.

Earlier in the day, a meeting was organized by the people of Sabuda at Sabuda Presbyterian LP School (SSA). It was attended by the leaders of KSU, North Khasi Hills District, CORP, Eastern Zone, CSWO (IH) and the HNYF.

Addressing the gathering, almost all the speakers lambasted the State government for its lethargic attitude towards resolving the border dispute with Assam. They also demanded the setting up of a police outpost at Sabuda.
