J&K digitises 600 rare manuscripts, calligraphy specimens

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (AACL) has digitised 600 rare manuscripts, calligraphy specimens and miniatures while sixth volume of Kashmiri encyclopedia was being published.

This information was given by AACL secretary Khaliad Bashir Ahmad to Governor N N Vohra, who is also patron of the Cultural Academy.

Mr Khalid informed the Governor about the to-date status of the digitisation of rare manuscripts, calligraphy specimens and miniatures.

He said so far 600 such manuscripts have been digitised, while the previous volume of Kashmiri Encyclopedia has been published and work was going on its sixth volume.

He also briefed the Governor about the progress on the construction of Tehzeeb Mahal at Srinagar and the renovation of Tagore Hall and Abhinav Theatre.

Mr Vohra discussed with Mr Khalid the ongoing and future activities of the Academy and emphasised the important role which the Academy is expected to play for the promotion of art, culture and languages in the state.

He observed that the State has an exceptionally valuable heritage of languages, history, traditions and culture which the Academy must effectively promote.

Mr Khalid also highlighted the recent initiatives taken by the Academy for the promotion of languages and literature and showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage and other activities of this organisation.

The Secretary, Cultural Academy, presented to the Governor a set of recent publications brought out by the Academy in different languages and briefed him about the volumes which are in the pipeline. (UNI)
