SHILLONG: A lot has been spoken about the highhandedness of Government run SPTS bus drivers and their habit of stopping the buses at any point that catches their fancy, leading to traffic jams.

East East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang on Thursday said that one of the factors that traffic jams in the city is so common, is the irregular stopping SPTS buses.

The SP rued the fact that passengers were embarking and disembarking at their place of convenience though demarcated embarkation and disembarkation points have been setup in different locations of the city.

The SPs warning has come at a time when complaints of rough driving by SPTS buses drivers are commonly heard in Shillong.

“We will impose fines on such erring bus drivers,” Kharkrang said.

The SP also said that cooperation of the buses will not only reduce traffic jams but also discipline the commuters.
