Fake company operators nabbed

 SHILLONG: The city police on Friday arrested two people from Nagaon, Assam for allegedly duping people with their money.

The two accused have been identified as Shahidul Islam and Nilin Akash Medi claimed to be representatives of one Social Economic Development & Investigation organization, a legal NGO under the Government of India as per the Certificate of Registration of Societies Act XXI,1860.

SP City, Vivek Syiem informed that the fake organisation has been operating in the city for the past four to five months even as informing that they have manage to collect around Rs 9 lakh from a total number of 100 people.

Syiem informed that they have engaged two local girls as agents (Bomita Sangma and Suman Thapa) to collect money on behalf of the organisation.

“They have managed to dupe people by falsely promising that they would get Rs 5 lakh in six months if they deposit Rs 6000,” the senior police official informed.

The police managed to nab the two accused following a tip off that they are collecting money in Nongmynsong area.

“We have already registered a case in this connection,” Syiem added.
