SHILLONG: Taking strong note of the recent incident in which Chokpot MLA Clifford Marak was not allowed to enter the high security Meghalaya Secretariat, the Secretariat Administration Department (SAD) Minister Deborah Marak has decided to summon the officers of the department to streamline the restrictions in the power house of the State.

It was on July 11 that the senior MLA was restricted from entering the Secretariat by security personnel who did not recognize him. Clifford Marak had also threatened to move the Assembly Privilege Committee over the incident.

The Garo Hills legislator also registered a protest with the Chief Secretary.

“People are not recognizing MLAs and this is a matter of concern for us. I will summon my officers to see if there is any scope to further improve the security without harassing the visitors,” the SAD Minister said.

Reacting to a query that many of the new MLAs were yet receive biometric cards required to enter the Secretariat the Minister said that the department will issue one to all Secretariat staff including MLAs when they ask for the same.
