Dhaka: UN children’s agency in partnership with the Bangladeshi government and a national institute on Sunday launched a budgeting framework for 57 million children in Bangladesh

The budget formulators say the framework provides policy makers, MPs, civil society groups, development partners and researchers information on how children’s needs are prioritized within the available fiscal space as well as resource gaps, tools and indicators.

It is a framework to guide the nature and scope of public sector investments that, directly or indirectly, influence the equitable realization of children’s socio-economic rights.

Pascal Villeneuve, representative of United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) Bangladesh, said investment in the 57 million children who make up over 40 percent of Bangladesh’s population but account for all of its future must be a continuing priority.

“This is why we are calling for the effective implementation of the framework in the area of social budgeting, by relevant officials, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders, including communities and, importantly, children themselves,” he said. (IANS)
