74 students take part in chess tourney

SHILLONG: The All Shillong Nirendra Kumar Roy Memorial School and Higher Secondary level chess competition, organised by Zenith Jubelieth Club, was held at the club premises recently.

In all, 74 students participated in two groups – upto class VII in Group A and class VIII to XII in group B. The games were conducted in FIDE Swiss League in six and seven rounds under the supervision of B Singh as the Chief Arbiter, General Secretary of Meghalaya Chess Association, and assisted by Dwipendra Dutta as Deputy Arbiter.

In Group A, Bishu Deb secured first position by scoring 6/21 points followed by Meebankit Giri who came second by scoring 5/18 and Chandramani Kumar Patel who scored 4/16 points.

In Group B, Bobby Lyngdoh secured first place by scoring 7/28 points followed by Alisha Lyngdoh in second with 6/27 points and Francis Chhangte in third position with 6/24 points.
