Dist admin orders magisterial inquiry

 SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the recent incident of superstition wherein a villager at Sohryngkham was forced to eat dog excreta for allegedly practising witchcraft.

The inquiry would be conducted by the Additional District Magistrate DM Wahlang.

Halorsing Kharumnuid (46) suffered the brutality before he was let off with a warning.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Wahlang said anyone having any information or evidence pertaining to the incident may depose before him on August 6 at Sohryngkham Lower Primary and Upper Primary School from 10 am to 1 pm. Those concerned can also depose before him on August 7 at his office chamber in the Deputy Commissioner ‘s office either in person or through affidavit.

The ADM has been directed to submit his report within ten days.

Acting on an FIR lodged on Friday, police arrested seven out of the eight accused including a woman for their alleged involvement in the incident.
