NEW DELHI: In the second such incident in less than a week, a 20-year-old Spanish language student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University was attacked and molested inside the university campus allegedly by a former student of the institute.

Police said the girl, a student of the School of Languages, was molested and slapped inside the campus by her friend Abhinendra Jain last evening with whom she was in a relationship.

Jain, 24, was arrested on Monday and a case under sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force against women with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) was registered against him.

The victim told police that she was in a relationship with Jain. He had told her not to talk to other men. When she did not listen to him, he attacked and molested her, police said.

“Jain, a resident of Bihar, is an ex-student of the university. Last evening, he called the girl asking her to meet him. When the girl came to meet him, he attacked her, slapped her and molested her in full public view. The girl was staying in a hostel in the JNU campus,” said a senior police officer.

He said the girl is a student of School of Language where she was studying Spanish.

The attack came five days after JNU student, Roshni, was allegedly attacked by her 23-year old friend Akash with an axe. Akash had allegedly hit her head with the axe before consuming poison and slitting his throat.

He died in the AIIMS trauma centre a few hours after the incident while Roshni is recuperating at Safdurjung Hospital. (PTI)
