NONGPOH: Dictating the State Government over the choice of posting of the head of the district in Ri Bhoi, the three leading Social organization comprising the Khasi Student Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills District, Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Central Body and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), North Khasi Hills District have strongly opposed the recent order of the government for posting a non khasi Deputy Commissioner and asked the government to appoint a Khasi IAS officer as the DC within five days failing which, they threatened to resort to agitational programmes.

In protest to the order for appointing Pooja Pandey an IAS officer as Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, the three organizations on Monday submitted the memorandum to Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of the State Government.

In the memorandum, they had stated that majority of the Rangbah Shnong (Village Head) and the people of various villages under Ri Bhoi District are not fluent in English Dialect as to be able to converse or carry out their function in this dialect, thus it is of utmost importance that the head of the District (Deputy Commissioner) should be a Khasi officer who will be able to understand what they want to express regarding their problems and grievances without the aid of any interpreters or intermediaries between them.
