Washington: Former US president George W. Bush underwent a successful heart surgery at a hospital in the US city of Dallas Tuesday, his spokesperson Freddy Ford said.

The surgery was necessitated after doctors found a blockage in the artery of the former president’s heart during a phsyical examination Monday, reported Xinhua citing the spokesperson. “At the recommendation of his doctors, President Bush agreed to have a stent placed to open the blockage.”

Bush, 67, has no previous history of heart trouble.

The procedure at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas went off “without complication” Tuesday morning, he added.

The 43rd president of the US was expected to be discharged Wednesday and resume his normal schedule the following day. He is now “in high spirits” and eager to return home, the official added. (IANS)
