SHILLONG: Following its poor show in the last assembly elections, the State Bharatiya Janata Party has now decided to kick off the Gao Cholo Program (Move towards Villages) to make mass contact in the villages.
This was a resolution that was adopted in the state executive meeting of the State Bharatiya Janata Party which was held here on Wednesday.
The BJP has also decided to strengthen grass root organization to give a new kick to the party. Speaking on the occasion, state President Khlur Sing Lyngdoh said that the party failed in the last election due to the money power abuse by its opponent and also the lack of co-ordination among the party workers at the grass root level.
He also construed that some party activists are working against the party’s interests and this was reported by some candidates in the last party meeting.
“This cannot be tolerated at any cost and disciplinary action will be taken against anyone who breaches authority,” he said.
He also stressed that party members need to meet the people in villages in both Khasi and Jaintia Hills and Garo hills as it will enable the party to know about the problems at the grassroot level, introduce the party and try to convince them to join the party and strengthen the local committees.
He also took a dig at the deteriorating law and order situation of the State, especially in Garo Hills, and also the rising crimes against women.
“The State Government has failed to address the issue of unemployment which is a cause of frustration among the youth,” he said while addressing the gathering.
