SHILLONG: Taking strong note of the recent witchcraft-related incident at Smit which led to the death of three people, Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit has asked the Home Minister Roshan Warjri to conduct a thorough investigation into the numerous deaths in and around Smit village.

The legislator on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister stating that he was informed by the villagers that as many as five persons from the village were found dead from the river bank under suspicious circumstances.

He was of the view that the Government must conduct a thorough investigation into all these mysterious deaths in order to unearth the truth and to ascertain whether these cases resulted from the ill-fated incident on the 16 August 2013.

He also said that such incidents should not be allowed to repeat in the future.
