SHILLONG: When one visits Khynadilad, his eyes for once and all will definitely catch the attention of an abandoned park right in the middle of the road which has become an eyesore but the State Government has now planned to revamp the entire place.

Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Sunday said that the department will dismantle the whole rubble structure and convert it to an embarkation and disembarkation point for people to board local taxis.

She admitted that the so called place before the OB Shopping mall has become a host for unhealthy practices as often children are seen sniffing dendrites and other intoxicant substances in the place.

The abandoned park in the commercial hub of the city used to be a park for children’s to play there but over the years, the park has become a den of nuisance makers.

Lyngdoh told that the proposal for giving facelift to the park has been approved by the 13th finance commission and the department will resume the work as soon as the rainy season fades away, adding the project would be commissioned before Christmas.

“The plan would also reduce in easing congestion in busy Khyndailad stretch,” Lyngdoh said.

The place will also be blacktopped and the estimated budget of the project is around Rs 24 lakhs.

Urban Affairs department is contemplating to finish the entire project before the season of Christmas knocks the door.

A women’s organization, CSWO had earlier asked the State Government to allot the space for the womenfolk who have opened up their shops in the footpath of Police Bazar.
