SHILLONG: About 838.500 kgs (net) of ganja (cannabis) costing about Rs 41, 92,500 meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh was detected from a jungle in the outskirt of Nongspung village, East Khasi Hills on Sunday.

The narcotics were detected during a search operation at Nongspung village conducted by the Customs headquarters preventive unit, Commissonerate of Customs- North Eastern Region along with the special operation team of Meghalaya Police after receiving specific information.

The recovered cannabis were packed in 32 gunny bags and were covered with a silpauline sheet which were hidden in a jungle on the outskirts of the village. From preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the said narcotics are meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

No one hs been arrested in this connection so far and further investigation of the case is on.
