Goalpara/SHILLONG : Two trucks were on Tuesday set ablaze by unidentified persons during the indefinite economic blockade by the Garo National Council (GNC) in Assam’s Goalpara district.

While one truck was set ablaze at Kardang near Resubelpara, the other one on NH 51 at Kachomari, both under Krishnai police station.

One truck loaded with Choco Malt (ICDS goods) was meant for Meghalaya. Police have launched a massive search operation to arrest the persons involved in the incident.

The GNC, Assam unit, has called the indefinite economic blockade in areas bordering Meghalaya demanding that Garo villages be excluded from Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC).

Silgen Sangma, secretary GNC, Assam unit, said that the Gauhati High Court has already given a verdict saying Goalpara district must be excluded from the Rabha Autonomous District Council.

The GNC later called off the agitation after Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi invited the organization for talks to be held on August 29. (PTI and Our reporter)
