SHILLONG: The FKJGP Garo Hills Zone has questioned the recent examination of the General Nursing & Midwifery course/PG Diploma in Nursing/ B. Sc in Nursing (Non-Bonded) conducted by the Directorate of Health Services for its failure to adhere to the State Reservation Policy.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Federation stated that the examination was held for 180 posts for which there were around 811 applicants out which 11 applicants were Garos but only five applicants were selected for interview in gross violation of the State reservation policy.

“Only two days after the results were declared, there is going to be personal interview of the selected candidates,” the FKJGP said, while adding that the result of the said examination was supposed to be declared on August 19 but due to alleged interference by some ministers the result was declared on August 26.

The FKJGP pointed out that as per the reservation policy, out of the 180 posts, 72 posts (i.e. 40 per cent) should have been reserved for the Garo candidates.

“This would not have posed any great challenge for the authorities as only 11 candidates had applied for the posts,” the Federation observed.

Referring to the recruitment of constables in the Meghalaya Police recently where different cut-off marks were allotted for Garo and Khasi- Jaintia candidates in order to entertain the job reservation policy in its true spirit, the FKJGP observed that the Directorate of Health Services should put on hold the proposed personal interview scheduled for August 29 and 30 and reschedule it for another date after reconsidering all the 11 Garo candidates who had applied for the posts.
