SHILLONG: The executive committee of Garo Hills State Movement Committee, which has been agitating for the creation of a separate state for Garos, has decided to discontinue its ongoing sit-in-demonstration from Thursday.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, GHSMC general secretary Augustine Marak said the sit-in demonstration would be discontinued on September 29 and 30 and added that the committee has also decided to hold non-cooperation movement (NCM) on September 10 and 11 in the entire Garo Hills from 5 am to 5 pm.

The GHSMC has been demanding creation of a Garo state on the linguistic lines of the States Reorganisations Act, 1965.
