Candidates urge govt to keep screening test on hold

 SHILLONG: Fearing manipulation in the written tests conducted for the non-bonded candidates who have applied for the post of nurses in the various district hospitals and healthcare centres, the aggrieved candidates on Friday asked the State Government to put on hold the screening test for the 360 vacant posts.

The candidates’ demand comes after allegations that interference by a section of ministers led to the delay in the announcement of the results of the written tests conducted for the non-bonded candidates.

It may be mentioned that the results of the written tests, which were supposed to be declared on August 19, were announced only on August 26.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, one of the candidates, Melshior H Riang, said there is every possibility that the results could have been manipulated.

Further referring to the allegations that many candidates who did not appear for the written test were called for interview, he said, “The people involved in the matter should be tracked down and punished.”

As per the advertisement published to fill up 360 vacant posts of nurses, the department has exempted the bonded candidates from sitting in the written test while the non-boned candidates have to appear for both written and screening tests.

“It is unfair on the part of the government to adopt such a policy in the recruitment for the same posts,” he said.

Stating that as per the advertisement, the department has clearly stated that preference would be given to people who are fluent in local languages, Riang alleged that few of the successful candidates are non-indigenous and not well versed with the local languages. “All non-bonded candidates should come forward to form an association,” he said.
