SHILLONG: Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Lamlynti Boxing Club Mawlai (LBCM), a friendly football match was played between the Club and the media fraternity on Saturday at the JN Sports Stadium, Polo.

Shillong Press Club had the upper hand in the match right from the start and the pressmen vanquished the opposition club by two goals to one.

In the friendly match, LBCM took the lead when they scored their only goal against SPC XI in the 10th minute, putting the SPC XI in disarray with their strong form.

Pulling their act together, SPC defender Avinash Pradhan, in the nick of time, took a pass from mid-fielder Banjop Mukhim, scoring the equaliser.

SPC then took the lead and held on for the victory in the match, which was played in good spirits between the two teams.

In a small but promising gathering on the field, an exchange of mementos between the two participating clubs took place.

Speaking on the occasion, the Shillong Press Club President David Laitphlang lauded the effort of the Boxing Club in promoting the sport in the state and its endeavour to bring the youth to a sporting future.

“Lamlynti Boxing Club has always been pursuing the uplifting of the sport for the benefit of the youth in a humble way and we have been with them ever since its inception,” Laitphlang said.

The Shillong Press Club President reiterated his organisation’s support to all sports activities for the benefit of the youth of the state.

The LBCM president Larry Kharpran expressed his appreciation to the media fraternity.

“It is only through the media that boxing events are being highlighted to the public, and this is how the youth of the state can take advantage of the club and shine in their talent,” Kharpran said.
