SHILLONG: The A.Chik Indigeneous Right’s Forum (AIRF) on Sunday questioned the silence of veteran political leaders of the State as well as the social activists regarding the alleged misuse of the surname of Sangma by the Chief Minister.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the AIRF came down heavily on the silence of veteran political leaders of the state like former Speaker of Lok Sabha Purno A Sangma, former Chief Ministers including DD Lapang, SC Marak, Donkupar Roy, Deputy Chief Minister Rowel Lyngdoh, Senior most politician Hoping stone Lyngdoh and CEM of KHADC PN Syiem as well as the social activist questioning their role in this regard.
“Why are they playing the role of silent spectators and allowing such a serious mishaps to happen under their nose,” AIRF president Ringgan Sangma questioned.
Questioning the surname of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, the AIRF has challenged the Chief Minister to legally counter the allegations leveled against him by various organisations and initiate legal action.
According to the AIRF, mere swearing in an affidavit or furnishing manufactured document by any person on a later date does not make that person eligible to adopt any Tribal Title/Surname and enjoy the status and benefits of Scheduled Tribe.
Earlier, the All North East Indigenous Garo Law Promoters Association (ANEIGLPA) has alleged that Dr Sangma of enjoying the benefits of Scheduled Tribe by fraudulently adopting the title of Sangma.
“If the allegations is rose by the ANEIGLPA are not true then it is the moral duty as well as the responsibility of Dr Mukul to legally counter the allegations and initiate legal action,” Sangma said.
But if the same allegations are true then he should immediately step down from the Office of the Chief Minister on the ground of allegations labeled against him and make way for neutral enquiry into the allegations and prove his claim and clan in the Court of law with the help of proper evidence to counter all these allegations, Sangma added.
