JOWAI: In a bizarre case, unknown miscreants attempted to exhume the corpse of late Qually Suiam, former JHADC Chief Executive Member, on Saturday night.

Suiam, who breathed his last on September 4, was laid to rest the next day at Mootyrshiah village in West Jaintia Hills District.

Sources informed that early Sunday morning some villagers discovered that the grave had been dug and an unsuccessful attempt had been made to bring out the coffin.

Sources alleged that the act of desecration of the grave of the late ex-CEM could have been perpetrated by thieves.

The incident has angered Suiam’s family members and residents of the village. A complaint has been lodged at Raliang police outpost. Additional Extra Commissioner, FB Basan, visited the graveyard on Sunday and conducted an enquiry into the case.
