Shillong Premier League

SHILLONG: The JN Sports Complex came alive on Saturday as Rangdajied United FC were able to get one better over Royal Wahingdoh, earning themselves a 2-1 win in their Shillong Premier League match.

Rangdajied’s foreign recruit Shin Hojun provided an early ninth minute lead when he powered in a header following a calculated cross from the left flank.

Rangdajied looked to be in a strong position during the early minutes of the game until youngster Loken Meitei gave Wahingdoh a vital equaliser in the 20th minute after a passage of combination play by the Royal attack.

Just six minutes later, however, Rangdajied’s Bansharai Sunn flicked an aerial cross straight past keeper Bishorjit for a 2-1 lead.

The second half saw Royal Wahingdoh come back hard as they maintained a high possession rate while working their way into the box on several occasions.

However, the attack was unable to penetrate past the Rangdajied defence and a few questionable off side calls by the linesman did not help.

Rangdajied looked clinical in their approach as they made best use of the midfield and the flanks. They now have six points from their two wins in as many matches.

RWFC are yet to win a match and the defending champions have just one point from two games.

On Monday, Mawlai will face Nangkiew Irat at 3:30pm at the JN Sports Complex.
